This is courtesy of the late AL umpire Ron Luciano from his book "The Umpire Strikes Back." Seems Ron and the Baltimore Oriole's manager Earl Weaver have a mutual history: the minor leagues. One night, Ron is doing the plate and Weaver is screaming at him about balls and strikes. Finally having had enough, Ron strolls over and says: "Earl - that's it. No more yelling from the dugout on balls and strikes." Weaver replied: "What? You don't know what I said. Why don't you GUESS at what I said. You've been "guessing" all night out there." Ron replied: "Fine. I just guessed at what you said - and you're outta here for saying it!
